The ocular amulet is the charm meant to protect against the true evil eye: a curse transmitted through a malicious glare, usually one inspired by envy which will cause misfortune or injury.

In ancient Egypt, the Eye of Horus, also known as a Wadjet pendant, was buried with pharaohs to protect them in the afterlife.

The earliest known evidence for belief in the evil eye goes back to ancient Greece and Rome 3000 years ago. However, the myth is widespread on every continent and it has symbolism in every religion.
