Soutache or Russia braid is a narrow flat decorative braid that originated in France in the 15th century. It was used in the trimming of clothing for the aristocracy and to make jewelry. By the 19th century, it was also used in military uniforms. 

Nowadays, Soutache is a worldwide spread style of jewelry and it is very popular among Latin Americans because of the beautifully crafted combination of colours.
